We award four $1,000 scholarships to current YPPA members, one $1,000 scholarship to a Yakima Police Explorer, and one $1,000 scholarship to a non-YPPA member child.

This is a selection process with specific selection criteria. Each application will be reviewed by the Benevolent Fund members.

The scholarship application is open February 1, 2026 and closes April 1, 2026.

Scholarship Eligibility

  • Be a son or daughter of a current YPPA member in good standing,
  • OR be a part-time or full-time student, from Yakima County, at an accredited college or trade school.
  • All current YPPA members will emailed instructions for eligibility: it is the child's responsibility to contact their loved one within the department to obtain and follow those instructions exactly.
  • Failure to follow the provided instructions and outlined processes that will be emailed to current YPPA members, will result in disqualification or may not be considered.

*IMPORTANT

  • Should a recipient of a scholarship fail to enroll and/or attend a qualifying college program within six (6) months after its receipt, the full amount of the scholarship will be returned to the YPPABF.
  • You may be contacted for in-person interview.
  • Each applicant is eligible for two (2) scholarship awards in their academic career.
  • You may only submit one (1) application per year.
  • Submission of an application does not guarantee that the applicant will be awarded a scholarship.
