MESSAGE FROM CHIEF BOYLE – LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL GARDEN HONORING SERGEANT JOSEPH DECCIO

Dear Members of our community,

August 3rd, 2026 marks the five-year anniversary since Sergeant Joe Deccio tragically passed away while performing his law enforcement duties for the City of Yakima. In honor of Sergeant Deccio, we are proud to move forward with the construction of the Yakima Law Enforcement Memorial Garden. This sacred space will serve as a lasting tribute to Sergeant Deccio’s sacrifice, dedication, and service to our community.

The Memorial Garden is a collaborative effort that reflects our commitment to honoring those who serve and protect. To bring this vision to life, we are seeking support from both our department and the community through donations and sponsorships. Your contributions will help fund essential elements of the memorial garden, including landscaping, the monument itself, and security enhancements.

We invite everyone to participate in this meaningful project. Donations can be made through the Yakima Police Patrolmans Association (YPPA) donation portal, with options for one-time gifts, recurring contributions, and sponsorships. Your generosity will help ensure that this memorial is a fitting tribute and a place for reflection, remembrance, and community gathering for years to come.
